Again in the Room full of 300yr old Thangkas. The wall mural behind the thangkas is also impressive. In the 17th C, in greater Tibet it was estimated there were 5000 monasteries. Through time and cultural revoltution the numbers have dwindled down, my question: All that art work, the books, and religious statues had to be moved somewhere. Yes? So here is a representative of thangkas that have been moved over time as other monasteries failed. In this one room, there are maybe 100 or more beautiful thangkas. So maybe this is a combination of 5 failed monasteries? I have traveled extensively going gompa to gompa and this room is the most I have ever seen. Somewhere there is a hidden cache of paintings and statues.
