Early 20th C. Antique Ladakhi Shawl. Tie-dyed Tibetan Lingtse Cape, This style of cape is found in Zanskar. This may be older but the traditional hand woven tie and dye Ladakhi Shawls has not been made since 1960's. Today women opt for more common western styles. A few very old women still wear these during festival time. An older woman would weave the wool, dye it and then make the tigma (cross) all by hand. The tigma would signify rank within the local community. This is beautiful, the tradition ended 50 or more years ago.
