19th C. Antique Ningxia Tiger Ceiling Chinese rug. These types of rugs are buddhist in origin yet made in the Ningxia province of China, used in monasterys. They hung from the ceiling on leather straps, this I donot believe has its original. I do not know when this found its way to Lhasa, I bought the three shown here together in 1999. Notice the motif, the 2 Tigers and Deer, common are one Tiger. This particular piece is very different than standard, the natural wool base, sharpness to the characters. Artist conception seems to be a picture, and being that it isn't red I think this was perhaps used in the private residence. expensive

The Tiger symbolizes unconditional confidence, disciplined awareness, kindness and modesty. It is relaxed yet energized; resting in a gentle state of being that has a natural sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, referring to the state of enlightenment. The deer symbolizes love, gentleness, kindness, gracefulness, sensitivity, purity of purpose.
